Training and working Shona

Shona is highly intelligent and has been easy to train, taking each new challenge in her stride. She is totally honest and has grown into a tall, fast, athletic bitch with a wonderful calm nature. She is a reliable game finder, and it is a total pleasure to watch her on the scent of a runner.

Working Test Results

In 2015, her first year of competition, Shona entered eight working gundog competitions in total, gaining a second place in a NDNH test, winning at Novice level and coming second in an Intermediate test.

Shona entered eight working tests in 2016 with results as follows:
20th March 2016, UGS Open Qualifier at Bishopsdale, 12th place.
10th April 2016, Charity Intermediate test at Offham, 4th place.
29th May 2016, SEGS Open Water at Isenhurst, 4th place.
5th June 2016,  UGS Intermediate at Popes Oak, 4th place.
11th June 2016, UGS Open at Ashburnham, 1st place.
25th June 2016, Kent Game Fair Open, 2nd place.
26th June 2016, Kent Game Fair Open, 2nd place.
24th July 2016, Bakadam Open, 5th place.
Segs invited us to compete in the team challenge at the Edenbridge and Oxted show on August bank holiday, and our team came 3rd, with Shona being the joint highest scoring retriever on 98/100 points.
10th June 2018, UGS Open Water at 500 Acre Wood, 4th place.

Field Trials

On the strength of her excellent working test results I entered Shona for her first Field Trial on 12th December 2016, which was run by the Chiltern Gundog Society at the Englefield Estate. We had to endure four drives, with six dogs being taken through to the final round, and much to my delight we were awarded a Certificate of Merit. We had two more runs later in the season, but Shona wasn’t in the awards.
I didn’t trial Shona the following season for the simple reason that I felt her daughter Riska was the better dog, and this proved to be the right decision when Riska won a trial on her third outing when only 25 months old.
